An Exciting Opportunity for Japanese Actors!!

We are looking for Japanese Actors for the Tokyo premier of a new comedic play "Kamiwaza". The play will take place in Shimokitazawa this October. Actors need to be able to perform scenes in both Japanese and English.

Synopsis:
Kamiwaza tells the story of an American writer (Hart) struggling with the ups and downs of life as a newlywed in Japan. As Hart and his wife Inori prepare for a visit from estranged step-brother Luke, Hart is haunted by the ghost of Inori’s deceased father. Luke’s arrival further upends their lives, and only Inori’s rebellious sister Kanae and a sexy stranger can save their floundering marriage.

The English-speaking roles are already cast. The director, writer, and actors all live in Tokyo, and the director is bi-lingual and has directed many plays in both Japanese and English.
The available Japanese roles are all main characters of the play.

Character descriptions:

Inori; Japanese female. Late 30's to late 40’s. Performs in both English and Japanese. She is the mystic of the play. Inori is profoundly independent, ferociously protective of those she loves, and fully committed to following her highest calling. She was told from her childhood that she wasn’t beautiful, but she is determined to change the story.

Kanae; Japanese female. Mid 30’s to mid 40’s. Performs in both English and Japanese. Kanae is a true wild-child. She dreams of riding motorcycles in far away places. Only her dedication to her sister keeps her in Japan. She works at a hostess club where she is able to use her undeniable sexual power. And yet, she can’t seem to find a sense of peace. Ultimately, she is destined to break free of all that holds her back.

Isshin; Japanese male. Mid 60’s-80’s. English language role only. A genuine Japanese craftsman. As the play begins, Isshin has recently died. But that doesn’t stop him from coming back to finish his business. Like his daughters, he is fierce, determined, and yet full of humor. As the figurehead of his family, Isshin refuses to let his past transgressions define him. Must ooze confidence and a command of the stage.

Saturday June 15th between 1:00-5:00 pm
Chuo-Ku, Tokyo (location will be emailed once your audition time has been secured)

Rehearsal Period:
Rehearsals are currently scheduled from mid August-October 6th. Exact rehearsal schedule will be based on actor availability, but a mixture of weekend, evening, and afternoon rehearsals is expected.

Show Dates and Location:
Kamiwaza will be performed on the following evenings at ‘Good Heavens’ in Shimokitazawa;
Monday October 7th, Tuesday October 8th, Tuesday October 15th, Wednesday October 16th, Monday October 21rst, Tuesday October 22nd

We will be entering into a profit sharing agreement with our actors. Actors will be expected to help with ticket sales, and are assured compensation for their efforts. Moreover, if the show turns a profit (initially and in the future) actors will certainly share in those profits.
