Born in Canada, Ryan Filiatrault, 37, has consistently pursued his passion for directing, embracing several career transitions along the way. Initially an electrician, Ryan shifted roles from table server to recruitment consultant in Japan, each change steering him closer to his ultimate calling in film. In his mid-30s, Ryan’s determination culminated in founding his own production company, Indigo Media, based in Tokyo.

Ryan views his career not as a series of setbacks but as a sequence of decisive, instructive divergences. “Failure is a mindset, and it looks different for everyone,” he reflects. What some might consider failure, Ryan sees as a critical pivot—a fork in the road guiding his journey in filmmaking.
